Car crashed into FPL substation, knocks out neighborhood power

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Florida Power & Light reported over 25,000 outages Wednesday morning in St. Johns County after a car barreled into one of its substations.

FPL’s outage map reported the outage at roughly 4:17 a.m. Action News Jax obtained video of a car crashed into the Lewis substation in St. Augustine.

According to St. Johns Sheriff’s Office, they assisted St. Augustine Police Department with a possible burglary in progress. Once entering the parking, lot two cars fled the scene causing them to eventually crash.

The FPL map now reports all power has been restored.

One of those vehicles crashed into FPL station after failing to negotiate the turn at State Road 16 and Lewis Speedway.
