ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A newly released report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says it was a 74-year-old neighbor who shot and killed a local dad before taking his own life on Saturday.

Jose Melendez is now listed as the suspect in the shooting, the report says.

A new 911 call also details what neighbors heard.

“There’s a neighbor that’s maybe a few houses down. He’s been known to pull his gun out before multiple times,” the caller could be heard saying. “There’s some people in the cul-de-sac and he was walking from the cul-de-sac back toward his house and he has the gun in his hand ... And so the loud noise I was hearing was the gun going off. He was shooting at them.”

So far, no motive has been released.
