ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said patrol deputies arrested a 49-year-old man during a traffic stop Sunday evening in Nocatee after discovering active felony warrants out of Brevard County.
Deputies stopped Cipriano Mendoza-Alcon during a speed enforcement detail, SJSO said in a social media post.

After pulling him over, authorities determined he did not possess a valid driver’s license and was in the U.S. illegally, the post said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mendoza-Alcon had active warrants for sexual battery on a minor more than 12 and under 18, false imprisonment, and kidnapping.

He was also charged with driving without a driver’s license in addition to the outstanding felony warrants.
Mendoza-Alcon is currently being held without bond at the St. Johns County Jail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has since placed a detainer on him.

St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick shared the following statement about the arrest:
“A routine traffic stop resulted in the apprehension of a dangerous subject from our community. Crimes against children are never tolerated and I’m proud our deputies located this criminal before he victimized another person. Cases like these make it worth collaborating with our federal partners in Immigration to ensure violent offenders are held accountable for their actions and removed accordingly.”
