ST. JOHNS COUTNY, Fla. — The St. Johns County virtual exhibit honoring local veterans features discharge certificates, ranging from the Spanish-American war in 1898, through World War II in 1945.

The certificates were the precursors to what we know as the DD-214. The Clerk’s office started recording the documents in 1919.

St. Johns County Clerk of Circuit Court and Navy Veteran, Brandon Patty, teamed up with Clerk historian, Dr. Susan Parker, to bring the exhibit to life. They say many of the Veterans have living relatives in Northeast Florida today.

The documents show how military experience changed over time, and include where each person served, their occupation, and more.

Any veterans interested in having their DD-214′s recorded should reach out to the Clerk of Court’s office for additional details.
