JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A suspect involved in a large fight was hospitalized Sunday after officers found him with a self-inflicted wound while trying to arrest him, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
JSO said officers responded to Ciel Luxury Apartments at around 8 p.m. after a battery was reported at the Southside complex’s pool. Once on scene, officers found several people involved in the fight and began separating them.

The sheriff’s office said an additional individual involved in the altercation was found at a nearby apartment unit, but when officers attempted to make an arrest, the suspect “began resisting.”
A second suspect then grabbed the officer, JSO said. As the officer and second individual fought, the first suspect fled into a bedroom and barricaded himself inside.
A K9 officer was called, and the suspect came out willingly after hearing the dog. “Upon exiting, officers observed the suspect was suffering from a self-inflicted wound,” the sheriff’s office said.
Officers gave medical aid until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital.

No officers were injured. The sheriff’s office said it would not release the officers’ information, citing Marsy’s Law.
