JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man suspected in a home invasion robbery was stabbed by the victim early Tuesday morning in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported home invasion robbery just before 2 a.m. at the Sable Palms Apartments on Emerson Street.

Police say the victim is a deaf man in his 20s and was able to fight off the attacker. Officers say the victim was not alone in the home; his family was there but may not have witnessed the incident.

JSO is continuing to investigate on how the suspect got into the victim’s home and if he had a weapon.

JSO said the suspect broke into the home and tried to rob the victim, who stabbed the attacker in the chest with a sword. A source told Action News Jax that the weapon was a samurai sword, but police are not confirming that at this time.

Police then responded at about 2:40 a.m. to a person reported being stabbed at a Gate gas station on Emerson Street, about a mile from the home invasion.

JSO determined then man found with a stab wound to the chest was the suspect in the robbery.  He was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has been arrested in connection with the robbery.

The victim was not injured.

JSO is continuing to investigate.
