JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New Year’s Eve is a big night for taxi cab drivers, but with so many people partying, there are also dangers.
Stan Johnson is making sure things under his hood are good to go. Johnson is a driver for Checker Cab and is getting ready.
“We live for New Years,” said Johnson.
It’s a big day for drivers in Jacksonville.

"It's going to be busy tomorrow. It's going to be one of those events where everybody comes out," said Johnson.
They're also focusing on keeping drivers safe. According to Action News, three taxi drivers were attacked while at work, in June of this year. Two of those drivers were killed. That's just one more reason, this company is taking safety of their drivers seriously.
"They're usually screened by dispatcher. They asked their name, phone number address and some confidential information," said Johnson.
General Manager Grady Braddock said if you need a taxi for New Year's, they have one major suggestion.
“Plan ahead. It's going to take a little longer than usual of course on a night like that so we ask people to make plans ahead of time,” said Braddock.
