Teen convicted in shooting death of St. Augustine store clerk

BACKGROUND: Murdered store clerk had recently gotten married 

Sergio Morgan-Wideman, the teen accused of shooting St. Augustine store clerk Malav Desai in 2005, was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder.

Morgan-Wideman, 17, was also convicted of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of robbery.

Friends said Malav Desai was working his regular 12-hour shift in May 2015 when Morgan-Wideman came through the door with a handgun at approximately 2 p.m. Desai was shot seconds later.

The jury deliberated for four hours.

Desai's friends said he relocated to St. Augustine from Jacksonville earlier in 2015 had been excited for his upcoming wedding.
