Teen receives 10 years in 2013 hit-and-run death

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years' probation for a 2013 hit-and-run death.

According to the state attorney's office, in October 2013, Keith Lamar Hartley, who was 15 years old at the time, was driving down Edgewood Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his SUV while driving into a curve.

Hartley drove the SUV over a curb and into the parking lot of Zion Hope Baptist Church where he struck Mavis Tutson, 78, while she was sitting in her parked vehicle.

Hartley fled the scene on foot.

The state attorney's office says Hartley pleaded guilty to charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving without a driver's license causing death or serious bodily injury.
