UPDATE: Deadly crash on I-10 near Hammond Blvd. caused by wrong-way driver, FHP says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 8 a.m. - FHP identified the victim of Monday morning’s deadly crash as a 35-year-old woman from Jacksonville. The driver of the other car, a 27-year-old man from Jacksonville, is hospitalized.

Investigators said the man was driving on the wrong side of the interstate when his vehicle hit the woman’s SUV head-on.

The woman died on the scene. Investigators said the man tried to run away after the crash, but was quickly captured.

UPDATE 7:55 a.m. - The Florida Highway Patrol now says Monday morning’s deadly crash on I-10 was caused by a wrong-way driver. One person is dead. Another driver was taken to a hospital. All eastbound lanes remain blocked.

ORIGINAL STORY - Traffic on I-10 is being detoured onto Chaffee Road following a deadly crash.

All eastbound lanes are closed near Hammond Boulevard.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. on Monday.
