One dead after collision on University Boulevard South, suspect flees scene: JSO

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 7:02 p.m: A person is dead after a deadly collision in the 1900 block of University Boulevard South on Friday afternoon, says the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

According to JSO, around 3:15 p.m., a Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound when it struck a Nissan traveling northbound. As a result of the collision, both cars spun. The Nissan burst into flames after striking a telephone pole.

JSO says the Dodge Challenger went into southbound traffic, where it struck a Toyota Camry.

The occupant of the Nissan was pronounced dead upon arrival by Jacksonville Fire Rescue, which eventually put out the fire.

JSO says both occupants of the Toyota Camry were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger fled the scene, and witnesses describe the driver as a male wearing a red shirt.

The sheriff’s office encourages anyone who saw the incident or has information regarding the identity of the driver of the Dodge Challenger to contact them at 904-630-0500.

University Boulevard South is closed between Beach Boulevard and St. Cecilia, says JSO.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says they responded, and no one was transported from the scene.
