The damaged pole tore down a row of three traffic lights on San Jose Blvd. and cut off power to the other traffic lights at the intersection. Police blocked roads until they were able to clear the area, which left drivers sitting in traffic for hours.

Action News Jax requested information about what caused crash but has not heard back yet.

Nearby businesses told Action News Jax this intersection is bad for traffic crashes. Some argue the added traffic is taking away from their businesses.

“It’s pretty annoying,” one nearby employee said. “It closes down our store. People can’t get here, people have to call and figure out how to get through. We don’t even have accurate information because we’re just working in the area and trying to figure out everything from what we see.”

In February, Action News Jax reported on a fatal accident that also involved a driver hitting a massive traffic light pole in the same intersection.

Repairs crews told Action News Jax the wooden pole that was damaged Thursday morning was only a temporary fix. They are waiting on supplies to make the repair.

Action News Jax reached out to the City of Jacksonville to request when the traffic lights will be fully repaired, and has not heard back yet.

Florida Department of Transportation said they are now conducting a traffic study of the intersection to determine if changes should be made.
