Train hits vehicle after tire is stuck in railroad track

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A train hit a car that was stuck on a railroad crossing Monday night, according to officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a Nissan Altima was traveling on Moody Avenue and attempted to cross the tracks near Doctors Lake Drive when a tire got stuck in the railroad track.

The 73-year-old driver of the car got of the vehicle. The train was unable to avoid hitting the car, FHP said.

A CSX representative said the train was from Waycross, Georgia and heading to Orlando.

The road was temporarily closed to traffic during the investigation and cleanup.

No one was injured in the incident.
