Two arrested in Jacksonville for murder of North Carolina man

Branden Bailey

Two people have been arrested in connection of the shooting death of a North Carolina man who traveled to Jacksonville to work.

David Howell, 38, was found dead in February after he failed to return to his hotel. Howell worked as a ship maintenance worker for weeks at a time in the Jacksonville area.

Howell's body was found on Owen Ave. He had been shot multiple times.

JSO arrested Branden Bailey, 26, and Desi Hall, 20. Both are charged with first-degree murder. JSO says the pair stopped by the home of Hall's mother, and they say evidence linking the two to the murder was found in the house.

Hall was arrested on June 8. Bailey was arrested June 29 after a brief standoff on the Westside.

JSO said Bailey used the car to transport Howell to a residence on Edgewood Ave. The car was equipped with a GPS tracker, allowing authorities to track the car from the time Howell is thought to have left the hotel.
