Two men in custody after chase, gunfire with Jacksonville police

Two men are in custody after a police-involved shooting early Monday.

At approximately 12:14 a.m. in the 600 block of East  21st Street, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer

attempted to pull over a black Chevy Impala for driving with no headlights on.

According to JSO, the driver ignored the officer and turned into Sanctuary Walk Apartments, with the officer following behind.

The driver drove toward the back of the apartment complex and parked near building five. Police then said the driver and the passenger exited the car and fled on foot.

JSO said the officer as well as another witness officer saw the driver of the car exit with a handgun in his waistband.

Police said while they were chasing the suspect through the complex, the suspect kept reaching into his waistband repeatedly as if to fire his weapon.

According to JSO, as one officer fired two rounds at the suspect, another officer entering the complex hit the suspect with his vehicle, pinning him to a fence.

Police said the man was taken to the hospital to make sure he didn't have any serious injuries from the being hit by the patrol car and has since been released and is in police custody.

The suspect was not hit by any gunfire and no police officer was injured, JSO said.

The passenger was found in the complex and was "cooperative" and arrested for an unrelated warrant.

The officer who fired his weapon is three-year veteran, D H. Bostick. This is his first officer-involved shooting.

Officer B.B. Bass, who hit the man with his car is another three-year veteran.
