JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UF Health Jacksonville launched a new mobile medical unit on Wednesday, bringing primary and preventive care directly to neighborhoods across Northeast Florida.
The unit will initially operate through a series of pilot locations to evaluate local health care needs across Duval, Clay, Nassau and Baker counties. Rather than starting with a permanent schedule, the pilot model aims to gather utilization data to establish a sustainable long-term route while connecting patients to the broader UF Health network.
The mobile unit offers several preventive and diagnostic services, including blood pressure, A1C diabetes and cholesterol screenings. Patients can also access primary care and wellness visits, health education and care coordination. Additional preventive options may be added based on community feedback.
Patrick L. Green serves as senior vice president and Northeast Florida regional president of UF Health. He highlighted the organization’s push to extend health care beyond traditional facilities.
“Access to health care is about more than having excellent services available. It’s about making sure people can reach those services when and where they need them,” Green said. “This mobile medical unit allows us to extend our reach beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics and into the communities we are privileged to serve. It is another important step in our commitment to improving health and advancing the well-being of people throughout Northeast Florida.”
To select visit sites, UF Health Jacksonville is working with community organizations, faith-based groups, schools, employers and municipal agencies. Shamika Wright, vice president of External Affairs and Community Engagement for UF Health Jacksonville, described the focus on local input.
“This initiative is really about listening to our communities and meeting people where they are,” Wright said. “Our community partners understand the needs of the people they serve and their insight will help us determine where the mobile medical unit can have the greatest impact. By working together, we can create meaningful connections to health care and help people take important steps toward better health.”
Patients will manage appointments online through the UF Health Jacksonville website once events are scheduled. Pre-registration will allow staff to coordinate staffing and patient flow prior to each location visit.

Specific pilot locations, dates and times will be published on the UF Health Jacksonville website as they are finalized. Online appointment requests will open alongside the scheduling announcements.
