The University of North Florida's Public Opinion Research Laboratory has released findings from a new poll of registered voters in Duval County related to the sale of assault weapons and campus carry laws.
The findings released Tuesday morning show that 52% oppose prohibiting the sale of assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines, where as only 42% in support of the prohibition.
Along party lies, 55% of republicans oppose such a ban, compared to 47% of democrats.
UNF also asked about allowing licensed individuals to openly carry, 54% oppose the proposal and 40% are in support of the proposal.
“Even in the wake of the Las Vegas shootings, Floridians are not supportive of restricting access to assault weapons,” said Dr. Michael Binder, UNF Public Opinion Research Laboratory faculty director. “With all of the political polarization in America about guns, I’m actually a little surprised that more Democrats are not supportive of more restrictions.”
Along party lines 69% of democrats oppose the proposal while 57% of republicans support the measure.
When it comes to concealed carry of handguns on college campuses, 59% of voters are opposed with 37% in support, but along party lines 78% of democrats opposes campus carry and 54% of republicans support the measure.
