JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fraternity at the University of North Florida has been suspended for the next five years.

UNF confirmed its Chi Phi chapter is suspended until 2031 after the chapter kept violating a university order while it was already being investigated for hazing, documents show.

According to the university, an investigation began last year after an anonymous complaint with photos that appeared to show possible new members posing nude, being sprayed with a hose and using drugs sometime during the fall 2025 semester.

As part of its investigation, the university brought in personnel from its Title IX office, UNF police, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families. A student conduct panel found the chapter responsible for hazing, endangerment and drug and alcohol violations.

UNF freshman Tyana Levers said hazing shouldn’t be part of joining Greek life.

“I feel like a lot of people, when you think of Greek life or even sororities or fraternities, you just think of, like, what if I’m gonna be hazed, or what if I have to do something to, like, get into this sisterhood, brotherhood,” Levers said. “It shouldn’t have to be that way.”

UNF officials said student safety is a top priority and that the school takes “strong and swift action” on hazing. All Greek life students at the university must complete hazing prevention training.
