An 18-year-old University of North Florida student faces a host of weapons charges after firing a gun in his dormitory room early Friday.

Cameron Daniel is charged with aggravated assault, shooting deadly missiles into an occupied building and firing a gun on school property.

His arrest report said an argument turned heated after Daniel’s girlfriend pulled out a Taser and began playing with it.

Students who live a floor below told Action News Jax they initially woke up to alerts of an active shooter.

Police say Daniel then pointed a handgun at another student before yelling at everyone to get out. Officers say he then shot the gun into the ceiling.

“When I get an email saying 'active shooter,' I’m like, ‘It could be anything,’” said Aliya Gouveia. “We were pretty much on high alert all morning.”

The university said no one was injured and there is no threat to anyone on campus.
