Unlicensed teen charged in hit-and-run

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 14-year-old St. Augustine girl is being charged in a hit-and-run auto incident that injured another teen.

William Deleon is now out of Flagler Hospital after sustaining serious leg injuries in the parking lot outside his St. Augustine home just before 9 p.m. Sunday.

Nashaliz Deleon, the victim's sister, described the leg injuries that has the 16-year-old now walking with crutches.

"His skin was all peeled off and his muscle was showing," said Nashaliz Deleon.

Eyewitnesses at the Summer Breeze Apartments said he was run over by an SUV driven by an unlicensed 14-year-old girl.

"She was playing around and she accidentally hit the brake or the gas pedal and hit my brother in the leg," said Nashaliz Deleon.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office offense report, the victim told deputies the driver yelled, "I'm sorry. bye," and drove out of the parking lot in the SUV packed with teenage girls. Deputies found and arrested the girl more than a dozen miles away a short time later.

The minor is now charged with leaving the scene of accident with injuries and driving without a license.

According to the property manager, the girl's mother was recently evicted from her apartment at Summer Breeze.

Deputies also charged the girl with trespassing.
