ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded Tuesday night to Camachee Cove, where an unoccupied SUV was found in the water. Later, a woman identified as the driver of the SUV was pulled from the marsh.

St. Johns County Sheriff's Officer Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw said the woman pulled from the marsh is also the same woman who was involved in the initial crash. She was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

According to Jeremy Robshaw of the SJCFR, the vehicle was unoccupied when it was found.

A female drove the vehicle into the water, got out and approached a resident, according to SJSO.

Just before FOX30 Action News went on air, reporter Kristy Wolski noticed that an SJSO helicopter was hovering overhead, with a spotlight shining on a woman in the water. Action News crews also heard someone yelling "I didn't do it."

A nearby resident ran to the front of the complex and alerted deputies who were searching other areas for the woman.

The helicopter relocated its spotlight to the marsh and Action News was live on the air as the woman walked out of the water and was met by investigators and paramedics.

Crews had been searching the surrounding area since around 8 p.m. when the suv first went off the road. When they arrived, the driver was no where to be found.

Deputies believe the woman came out of the water, spoke with a neighbor about the crash and then went back in the water at some point.

She is being evaluated at the hospital and there is no word yet if she will face any charges.
