MAYPORT, Fla. — The USS Halyburton decommissioned Saturday at the Mayport Naval Station after 30 years of service.
USS Halyburton was named after Petty Officer 2nd class William David Halyburton Jr. who was given a Medal of Honor posthumously because of his role in the Battle of Okinawa.
The ship’s final deployment was June 4 to support Operation Martillo.
Seventeen officers are on the crew with a total of 198 enlisted.
