A U.S. Navy veteran and his family have not been able to live in their home since Hurricane Matthew hit Jacksonville.

A tree went through their home -- and they need money to fix it before moving back in.

They said a tree hit and destroyed their porch. The same tree also snapped in half and crashed through their son's room.

“We contacted FEMA and waited about a week for FEMA to give an answer and we were denied. Duval County as a whole ... was denied,” Brian Ball said.

Luckily, no one was home when this happened because the family evacuated. But they said they're financially having a tough time.

Ball said he reached out to the Red Cross that offered to help to the family.

The family has started a Go FundMe account to help with expenses.
