CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The $4.3 billion Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched at 7:26 a.m. Sunday aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center.
Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the telescope will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble’s.
NASA says the “flagship mission will help astronomers explore dark matter, dark energy, and worlds outside of our solar system.”
Scientists project it to take three months and a million miles for Roman to reach its final orbit.
