JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three kids are safe after they were pulled from a wrecked truck that witnesses say was driven by a drunk driver who was combative with first responders Sunday night in Jacksonville.
“I was just running over here, and I heard screaming.”
That’s what John Bryant said he heard after a truck with three kids in the back seat crashed into a metal rail.
Bryant said the crash happened Sunday night after the truck hit a curb while speeding on Devoe Street.
Bryant said the driver was drunk. Susan Profit, another witness, said the man tried to fight first responders.
“Once he got out of the car and the fire department tried to help, he started swinging hands and started to fight,” said Profit.
She said her first concern at the scene was the children.
“My first thing as mom was to make sure those babies were okay,” said Profit.
Profit said people frequently speed in the area where the man hit the curb.
“It’s something we see every single day,” said Profit. “No one understands that there’s a curb here and it’s dangerous.
