Employees at a local uniform store are cleaning up the mess left behind from a car plowing into the business’ side window during the early morning hours.
“I heard a loud boom,” said one witness.
“[A] car drove through our storefront,” said Maddie Mitcham, an employee at Uniform Destination.
Witnesses say at around 3:30 a.m., a car hit a van with a woman inside before driving right into the Uniform Destination store off Beach Boulevard and University Boulevard South.

One woman told Action News Jax the impact sent the van spinning into a pole.
“I saw her van. It went that way,” the same witness said, as she pointed to that pole.
JFRD says one person was taken to the hospital as a result of this crash. Action News Jax is waiting on JSO’s crash report to find out what led up to this.
Right off the intersection of Beach Boulevard and University Boulevard South, you can see tire marks leading right up to the gaping hole where the car plowed into the side of the building.
Now, employees tell Action News Jax if it hadn’t been for a brick post, it could’ve been a lot worse.
The store plans on having this boarded up by the end of the day, with repairs done by the end of the week.
In the meantime, while it’s business as usual, employees are dealing with unusual circumstances.
“We are still open, even though we have this wonderful view behind us,” Mitcham said with a chuckle.
Now, everyone’s helping clean up all this debris.

“We shook out our uniforms, so there’s no glass,” she said. “We swept the whole area, as a company we’ve all come together. We’ve had employees come early. The owner came in.”
Mitcham says she’s been working for the company for almost eight years. This store has been at this spot for three.
“This is one of our main locations,” she pointed out. “This is a really busy intersection.”
It keeps her busy with filling orders.
“Doctor’s offices, vet offices, dentist offices, any office that needs a uniform,” she described. And she says this crash isn’t going to get in the way of that.
“We are still here for our customers,” she emphasized.
