A woman was killed Friday in a head-on crash involving two midsize cars in St. Johns County.
Florida Highway Patrol said a woman in her 30s driving a black Ford crossed into the westbound lane of State Road 16 hit a man driving a white Kia head-on. Troopers said the driver who caused the accident died at the scene.
“The driver of the Kia was transported to the hospital along with the passenger. They are currently in critical condition,” said FHP Lt. Tina Hall.
Investigators spent hours taking measurements, capturing scene evidence and documenting crash factors in the report.
State Road 16 and Hunters Creek were closed for hours as investigators redirected drivers to alternative routes.
“Now that we are getting more accidents, it’s getting a little more concerning,” said driver Toffy Blaber.
FHP said the speed limit on that stretch of road is 55 mph. Some neighbors told Action News Jax that they’re asking drivers to abide by the speed limit.
“Our heart goes out to the family and everyone involved here. We just feel so, so badly for them,” said Blaber.
