JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police arrested and charged a woman Friday who hit and killed a pedestrian in Jax Beach in August.
Deborah Allison Brewer, 44, was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide Friday for the Aug. 9 crash that took the life of 24-year-old Michael Gunderson.
Police say Brewer had a blood alcohol content of .165 at the time of the accident.
Brewer was parked in a private parking lot near 3rd Street North and 4th Avenue North.
That's when police say Brewer, for unknown reasons, jumped the parking curb onto the grass and accelerated at a high rate of speed onto the sidewalk heading east. Brewer's vehicle then struck Gunderson, a palm tree, a parked car and then rear-ended a Jacksonville Transportation Authority trolley bus before coming to a final rest.
Gunderson was a tourist visiting Jacksonville from Wisconsin. He had never seen the ocean before traveling to the Sunshine State.
