JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 75-year-old man driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 was killed late Friday in a three-vehicle crash that left two others seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just before 11 p.m. Friday on southbound I-95 near Park Avenue, troopers said.
According to FHP, a van driven by the 75-year-old Jacksonville man was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it sideswiped an SUV driven by a 26-year-old Jacksonville woman, heading south.
The SUV driver came to a controlled stop, but the van continued traveling the wrong way.
The van then struck a sedan traveling south behind the SUV, driven by a 27-year-old Tampa woman. The van and sedan came to rest in the middle lane after the collision, troopers said.
The van’s driver was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he was later pronounced dead.
The sedan’s driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to UF Health. Her passenger, a 49-year-old Jacksonville man, sustained critical injuries and was also taken to UF Health.
The SUV driver suffered minor injuries.
All drivers and the passenger involved were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s Troop G is investigating the crash.
