The White House announced Sunday that Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America, will be renamed Mount Denali.
The mountain, located in Alaska, was named after former President William McKinley in 1896.
Alaskans have attempted to get the name of the mountain chaned since 1975. Their attempts have been stifled by politicians from McKinley's home state of Ohio, who have been opposed to the name change.
President Obama made the announcement on the eve of an historic three-day presidential trip to Alaska, in which the focus of his attention will be on climate change.
