Parents seeking responsible party in waterslide collapse

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. — Who's responsible? That's the one looming question that many people in Eagle Harbor still want answered after their community water slide collapsed Thursday night

"The rules are posted all over the place. There's probably like four different signs inside that say 'one person at a time going down the slide' all the kids know it," said parent Penny Lane.

The sign could be seen from across the lake.

Still, 15 to 20 high school students managed to get on at once with adults and lifeguards all monitoring the area. Action News is learning this isn't the first time the train-like technique was tried.

"I've seen them do it before until somebody says stop," said Lane.

One local parent showed Action News exactly where the lifeguards sit to keep a close watch on the slide and she said they normally do just that.

We went to speak to one lifeguard about what happened.

"I would prefer they not talk about it just because. I think you can understand that," said the girl's father.

He didn't want to say much more on camera but did express his concerns. He said his daughter does a good job as a lifeguard and said most of the parents are all worried for their children's well-being.
