ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — U.S. 1 in St. Johns County is back open after a deadly train accident.
A train hit a person near S.R. 16 at N. Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
The train was traveling down the tracks heading north.
Suddenly, the engineer saw a person standing in the tracks.
They hit the horns and the brakes, but the person didn't move.

The train was at a complete standstill and first responders were all around the Winn-Dixie.
These tracks are parallel to Ponce de Leon in St. Augustine.
The train blocked U.S. 16 for part of the afternoon.
We know the man, who died at the scene, is a middle-aged white man, but his name is not yet available.

The area is near a former homeless camp, but police are still trying to identify the victim.
The train left at about 3 p.m. on its way to Jacksonville.
All of the roads that were shut down are back open.
Earlier, railroad police gathered samples to see if this person had drugs and alcohol in their system.
