Harvey, the host of Miss Universe 2015 mistakenly announced Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Colombia as the winner of the pageant, when the actual winner was Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Philippines.
There was lots of pressure. Millions of people watched with anticipation as Harvey announced the winner. His mistake left for a very awkward and uncomfortable situation for many.
Harvey realized his mistake and apologized live on air moments after he realized it, and then on Twitter shortly after the live show ended.
I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia. This was a terribly honest human mistake. I am so so regretful.
Moments after that, social media was sent into a frenzy. While many criticized Harvey, lots of people showed support for him despite the mistake.
