St. Johns River Ferry suspended for 8 weeks for maintenance

Jacksonville, FLa. — St. Johns River Ferry has suspended service for eight weeks due to regular maintenance.

The ferry goes back and forth from Mayport to Fort George Island. For commuters, using the ferry saves a lot of gas and mileage on their cars.

Commuters will now have to drive around the river to get to and from the island, which takes about 30 minutes and puts 22.5 miles on cars or trucks.

The enhancements being made during the closure are for safety and smooth riding and will avoid another round of closures later in the year.

It will be last round of upgrades that first began in 2016.

They will announce when it will begin service again.
