Texas lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban food stamp recipients from using benefits to buy certain groceries.
KSDK reports the proposal would ban people from buying soda, energy drinks, candy, cookies and chips, with exceptions.
According to the bill, any beverages containing at least 54 milligrams of caffeine per 8 fluid ounces would be banned. This would not include coffee.
People would also be unable to buy candy, potato chips and cookies ordinarily packaged and sold for consumption without further preparation.
