LOS ANGELES — Like this year's Oscars, the 2019 Emmy Awards will not have a host.

CNN reported that Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said the Primetime Emmys will not have a host, a decision partly influenced by the 2019 Academy Awards.

"Obviously, that was a piece of information and it did do very well but I think it's a pretty unique year for some of America's favorite shows and it was the right thing to do," he said, according to EW.com.

Collier was asked about potential names for hosts before going without a master of ceremonies.

"We've had a lot of names on the board, but the conclusion was reached this year that we're highlighting so many shows going away that it was a better use of the time (to focus on the shows)," Collier said. "There will be entertainment. There will be an opening number. If you look at the trade-offs in a show like the Emmys, so often it's a trade-off between the opening acts and using the time elsewhere. There will be many surprises. It will be entertaining."

The remarks were made at the 2019 Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.

Each year, the Emmys rotate which channel it airs on across ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. The last time the Emmys aired without a host was was in 2003 on Fox, according to Deadline. Variety reported that other hostless Emmys were in 1998 on NBC and 1975 on CBS.

The 2019 Emmys air on Fox at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 22.
