HAVERFORDWEST, England — The owner of a Mitsubishi Outlander had a bad day on Sunday.
Carol Howarth, 68, arrived at her parked car at a Haverfordwest, England, lot and saw a swarm of bees covering the back of the car.
"It was spectacular. I was driving through when I spotted the big brown splodge," Moses told The Telegraph.
CNN reported that Tom Moses, a local park ranger saw the bee-covered car when he drove past the shopping center.
In a Facebook post, Moses said he called the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers Association, which came with tools to collect the bees off of the car and put them safely into a box. The beekeepers also had bee smokers to calm the bees and collect them.
But Howarth said the bees returned the next morning.
The Telegraph reported that the swarm of bees followed her car as she drove home and she had to call the beekeepers again. The bees were removed for good by Monday evening.
"One theory was that the queen was trapped in my car and the swarm were following, but they couldn't find the queen anywhere so I've no idea if that was right," Howarth said.
"Apparently bees can swarm at this time of the year and it is a very strong instinct for them to follow the queen. I still don't really understand why, because they couldn't see the queen anywhere. Perhaps they just like the heat of my car."
