James Currie, 37, was brought back to New York and will be charged with concealment of a human corpse after allegedly dumping his 7-month-old son Mason Saldana Sunday, WNBC reported. Currie could face additional charges based on autopsy results.
The boy was found by tourists around 4 p.m. floating in the water with a backpack nearby.
Mason, who was born in January, was alive when his mother gave the boy to his father around 12:30 p.m. Saturday as part of the couple's court-stipulated visitation agreement, WNBC reported.
About 24 hours later, the child was likely dead when Currie was seen in surveillance video wearing a backpack fashioned as a baby carrier, covered with a blanket, WNBC reported.
