2 FBI agents wounded in Arizona shootout; gunman dead

MESA, Ariz. — Two FBI agents were wounded and a serial bank robbery suspect was killed during a shootout Friday in Arizona, authorities said.

Jill McCabe, an FBI spokesperson, said agents were executing a federal search and arrest warrant at a house around 6 a.m. in Mesa, KNXV reported.

One of the agents suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the other suffered minor injuries, according to KTVK.

McCabe said the suspect the agents were attempting to serve the warrants to was found dead inside the house, KNXV reported.

William Cook, who lives near the home, said he heard multiple gunshots just after 6 a.m.

“I heard five, six more right behind it. Then I saw agents pulling back and each one of them checking each other,” Cook told KNXV.

Authorities have not released the gunman’s name.

The FBI continues to investigate the case, and authorities said there was no other information available.

The shooting was the 31st officer-involved shooting in the Phoenix metro area this year, KTVK reported.
