Alleged shoplifter in California hit by car after running out of Kohl’s, police say

CLAIREMONT, Calif. — A woman who allegedly shoplifted merchandise from a Kohl’s department store in California was hit by a car while fleeing the scene Saturday night, authorities said.

According to Officer Robert Heims, of the San Diego Police Department, the 39-year-old woman was being pursued by the store’s loss prevention team in Clairemont when she ran in front of a 2011 Kia Soul, KSWB reported.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, remained at the scene, KNSD reported.

Alcohol was not suspected to be a factor, police said.

The woman accused of shoplifting suffered a broken pelvis and “several other injuries,” Heims told the television station. She was taken to an area hospital and was in serious condition, KSWB reported.
