PLYMOUTH. Conn. — The search continues for “Buddy” the beefalo that escaped a meat processing facility in Plymouth, Connecticut, on Aug. 3.
The nearly 900-pound cross between a bison and domestic cattle has been on the run for over six weeks and has been spotted around the woods in the area. Police say they have attempted to confront Buddy but retreated when the animal showed signs he would charge the officers.
Once Buddy is captured, he will be sent to the Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary in Gainesville, Florida, according to WVIT.
Katie Adkins, owner of Plymouth Meats from where the beefalo escaped, described the animal as “a little wilder than normal cattle... I mean, it’s half buffalo.”
Recent sightings in the area indicate that police may be close to capturing the animal. On Saturday evening, Buddy was spotted eating food that was left out for him.
Though the Plymouth police consider Buddy a local legend, they warn that he is highly aggressive and to call 911 if you see him.
