The officer, with the Mesa Police Department, was driving along U.S. 60 when a piece of the rack impaled the windshield of his unmarked SUV, KPHO-TV reported.

Officials said it was unclear whether the road debris had already been on the road or whether it had just fallen out of another vehicle, according to the television station.

The officer was able to safely pull over and was taken to an area hospital as a precautionary measure, KNXV-TV reported. A spokesperson for the police department said the officer was “doing fine,” KPHO reported.
