Music world reacts to death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins

A spokesperson for Bogota’s municipal government issued a statement late Friday confirming that the city’s emergency services received a call about a patient complaining of “chest pain,” according to The Associated Press. Ambulances were sent to the Four Seasons Casa Medina hotel, where the band was staying, and health workers “carried out resuscitation maneuvers” on the drummer.

“The patient was declared dead,” Bogota’s Secretary of Health tweeted Saturday morning.

Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley tweeted condolences.

“Shocked and saddened to hear @taylorhawkins has passed away today,” Simmons tweeted. “Our prayers and condolences go out to the Hawkins family, @foofighters friends and fans. Sad.”

“Speechless and Gutted,” Stanley tweeted. “Taylor was a great guy, a dad and a husband. My heart goes out to then, Dave and the band. What awful news.”

Smashing Pumpkins used a black-and-white photograph of Hawkins to offer condolences.

“Taylor Hawkins. 1972-2022,” the band tweeted. “Our deepest sympathies to Taylor’s family, his fans, and of course his band.”

Rocker Ozzy Osborne tweeted that Hawkins “was truly a great person and an amazing musician.”

“See you on the other side,” Osborne wrote.

“God bless you Taylor Hawkins,” tweeted Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. “I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power.”

Morello shared a photo of himself with Hawkins and Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction, Rolling Stone reported.

Miley Cyrus, who is a fan of the Foo Fighters, shared a photograph of herself and Hawkins to her Instagram stories, writing, “This is how I’ll always remember you,” adding that her upcoming concert would be dedicated to him.

Slash of Guns ‘N’ Roses wrote on Instagram that Hawkins’ death left him “devastating.”

“I’ve no words to express all the feelings I have about his passing,” the band’s lead guitarist wrote.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Hawkins rose to musical prominence as the touring drummer for Alanis Morissette, Rolling Stone reported.

Hawkins also appeared in the music videos for the singer’s hit singles “You Oughta Know” and “You Learn.”

After original Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith left the band, lead singer Dave Grohl asked Hawkins to join the band, Rolling Stone reported. He officially joined the group in the spring of 1997, the magazine reported.

Nickelback tweeted they were “in utter disbelief” after hearing about Hawkins’ death.

“Our deepest condolences to his family, his bandmates, his team, his friends and everyone that was every touched by the music he created with @foofighters @Alanis and so many others, the group tweeted. “This is so incredibly sad.”
