HARRISBURG, Pa. — A man who police said attempted to break into a house armed with a butcher knife was shot by the homeowner, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, Keon Washington was arrested Friday and charged with criminal trespassing, attempted burglary, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
Harrisburg police officers responded to a reported burglary at about 4:45 p.m. EDT, WPMT-TV reported. According to the police news release, Washington attempted to break into the home by kicking open the back door.
At that point, police said Washington was confronted by the homeowner, who was “lawfully armed with a firearm,” the release stated.
Police said the homeowner warned Washington to stop and leave, and when he refused, he was wounded by the homeowner.
Washington fled the area and was arrested on Saturday at 10:45 a.m., WHP-TV reported.
He was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, according to the television station.
