MIRAMAR, Fla. — Investigators believe a young boy found alone Sunday in Florida may be the son of a woman with Georgia and Alabama ties.

According to Florida's Miramar Police Department, officers are searching for 21-year-old Leila Cavett after residents discovered the toddler Sunday morning in the 1860 block of Southwest 68th Avenue. A witness told WPLG that the boy had a dirty diaper and no socks or shoes.

Police canvassed the neighborhood for an hour and a half, then took to social media to ask for the public's help in the case.

“She never mentioned to us about going anywhere,” Lewis told WSVN. “Like I was saying, we’re in the middle of a pandemic, so I don’t understand why she would just take an impromptu vacation to Florida.”

On Monday, Cavett's sister, Gina Lewis of Alabama, told WSVN that the boy is her 2-year-old nephew, Kamdyn. Lewis added that she didn't know why Cavett, who lived in Georgia, would have traveled to Florida.

In a Facebook post Monday evening, Miramar police said they were "concerned for [Cavett's] safety and well-being."

Investigators described her vehicle as a white, 1990s-model Chevy 3500 with a "Baby on Board" window sign. The truck also has a red or maroon tailgate, according to the post.

The Walker County, Alabama, Sheriff’s Office is looking for Cavett, as well.
