Neil Peart, Canadian rock band Rush’s drummer known for his technical proficiency is dead. He was 67.
His publicist confirmed to the CBC Peart died Tuesday. The cause of death was brain cancer, Rolling Stone reported.
“It’s about being your own hero,” Peart told Rolling Stone in 2015. “I set out to never betray the values that 16-year-old had, to never sell out, to never bow to the man. A compromise is what I can never accept.”
Peart, who lived in Santa Monica, California, retired from music after Rush’s final tour in 2015.
The progressive rock band formed in the 1970s. They sold more than 30 million albums and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
