Two teen girls injured after falling out of truck bed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two teenage girls identified as Alexa M. Almstead and Isabelle S. Childre are suffering from head injuries after a single-vehicle crash Saturday around 6 p.m.

Deputies and Fire Rescue responded to the incident that occurred in the area of Gilda Drive and Christina Drive near St. Augustine Shores.

Almstead and Childre fell out of the bed of a moving 2004 Chevy pickup truck, which was driven by a 16-year-old girl whose name has not been released, according to Kevin Kelshaw from St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The teenage girls were taken to UF Health in Jacksonville where they are suffering serious head injuries. Almstead was listed as critical and Childre is stable, according to UF Health.

Traffic Homicide Detectives with the St. Johns County Major Crimes Unit along with the Traffic Section are conducting further investigations.

There are no confirmed charges at this time.
