Jaguars’ Week 9: Stats & takeaways after Thursday’s win over the Ravens

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the team seem about as in rhythm as ever, posting back-to-back 20+ point wins against the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens.

Thursday night’s win over the Ravens puts the AFC South all but out of reach, now a 3.5-game lead at the halfway mark.

In back-to-back weeks, Lawrence and company have orchestrated long touchdown drives to get out early so they can seemingly coast their way to victory.

Lawrence’s arm saw a little more use this week, tossing for 242 yards on 26 attempts, however, just 45 of those yards came in the second half.

Lawrence’s domination over the middle of the field continues. He found Jakobi Meyers and Brenton Strange early and often, bringing his season totals to 90 of 116 (77.6%) for 1,178 yards.

Twelve touchdowns to two interceptions, according to Pro Football Focus. For context, that’s good for a passer rating of 136.3.

Along the offensive line, Walker Little has stepped in and exceeded all expectations in place of the injured Anton Harrison.

Little has allowed just pressures on 117 pass-block snaps on the season. His 1.7% pressure rate allowed is tied for second-best among offensive tackles, trailing only Garrett Bolles of the Broncos.

Little has now allowed zero pressures in back-to-back games.

Defensively, it’s much the same for Campanile’s unit. Stop the run and force turnovers.

A long touchdown run by Justice Hill against the Jags’ backups aside, they did just that. Over the last two weeks, the Jags’ run-defense faced Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry. The two star RBs combined for 25 attempts, 80 yards, and zero touchdowns.

Holding two of the league’s best RBs to just 3.2 yards per attempt is about as good as it gets, especially without DaVon Hamilton.

The turnovers just keep coming for Campanile and the Jaguars. They’ve now forced multiple turnovers in 15 of 25 games under his tutelage. On nine occasions, the Jaguars have forced 3+ takeaways, while failing to force a takeaway just four times.

Again, no matter how well Lawrence and the offense plays, a defense that forces 1.84 takeaways a game and holds teams to 15.1 PPG is gonna win a lot of games. It just helps Lawrence is also playing MVP ball for the last 365 days.
