Florida mom seeks help burying 1-year-old son who died in hot car

Khayden Saint Sauveur died in a hot car in Delray Beach on Saturday, July 15, 2017. His mother, Yolette Sanon, hopes to raise enough money to have his funeral at 10 a.m. July 29 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Delray Beach.

As Yolette Sanon tries to raise money to bury her 1-year-old son, she keeps asking God why he had to suffer.

The 32-year-old Delray Beach mother of four was driving home from school when her son was supposed to be inside his father’s house on Northwest Fifth Street in Rainberry Woods.

Instead, Khayden Saint Sauveur was in the back seat of the father’s small BMW as his family searched for him.

After the family called 911, Delray Beach Fire Rescue took Khayden to Bethesda Memorial East in Boynton Beach, the hospital where he was born almost two years ago and where he died Saturday.

hayden had a temperature of 107 degrees when he arrived, according to a Florida Department of Children and Families report released Monday.

“I can’t even imagine the pain,” Sanon said. “My son, my son, baked inside of that car.”

Khayden was at his father’s home and supposed to be under the watch of his grandfather and great aunt while his father was at work, DCF said.

The grandfather took a nap and the great aunt left the home while Khayden and his 8- and 10-year-old cousins watched TV in the garage, according to the report.

At some point, the grandfather woke up and realized the boy was missing. Eventually, they found him in a car, in which the children often played, the family told investigators.

Authorities believe the 1-year-old got into the car and was unable to get out. Investigators said he could have been in there for more than an hour and a half.

Sanon said her son was the most intelligent 1-year-old. Everyone would mistake Khayden for being older, she said.

Sanon has started a GoFundMe page with a goal of $10,000 to pay for his funeral expenses. She is working on her master’s degree in public health at Everglades University to try to better her family’s life.

But now, she has to find money she doesn’t have to bury her youngest. She wants to schedule his funeral on July 29 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Delray Beach, where she worships every week.

“I’m a single mother barely making it,” she said. “This is not something that I’ve ever image that I would’ve endure.”

She said that on the day of his death, she planned to pick him up from his father’s house to take him to a Chuck E. Cheese’s birthday party for her best friend’s child.

But when she stopped by her mother’s house on the way home from school, a friend was there to drive her to the father’s home and deliver the news. When she discovered what happened, she could only scream and pray.

Even though Khayden died under someone else’s watch, Sanon said she isn’t angry at them — just wishing God had other plans.

While the investigation is incomplete, Khayden’s death appears to be accidental, city police spokeswoman Dani Moschella said Sunday. DCF said there were no prior incidents with the family. It said it is “devastated to learn of Khayden’s passing” and will continue to investigate with police.

“I know one day you will answer these questions,” Sanon prays out loud. “Why him, God?
