St. Johns County deputy may lose use of leg after motorcycle crash

A St. Johns County deputy is still in intensive care after a serious motorcycle accident on July 14.

Tony Deleo, 49, may now lose use of one of his legs and the sheriff’s office confirms Deleo was on his way to a call on Friday when he lost control of his motorcycle, crashed into a tree and was thrown into a concrete power pole.

The accident occurred along a curve on County Road 210 near Cimarrone Boulevard, less than two minutes from where his wife Michelle works as a personal trainer.

Now her coworkers at Everybody Fitness are asking for your help.

“We set it up yesterday,” said Kelly Luedke, manager of Everybody Fitness.

Workers at the gym have created a GoFundMe page to help the family of Deputy Deleo.

"She's been working at the gym several years not just one of our trainers but she's family to us,” said Luedke.

Luedke says Deleo is at UF health and is dealing with a broken wrist that required a steel plate and eight screws to fix.

He also suffered severe nerve damage in one of his legs and may not be able to regain use of it.

“He's in good spirits, but it's a long road to recovery will probably be in hospital for three weeks. Lots of rehab,” Luedke said.

Deleo is a 20-year veteran of the NYPD and joined the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office three years ago.
